As a result of the changes made by the American Taxpayer Relief Act, the IRS is currently updating tax forms and completing programming and tests of its computer systems.
This will allow the IRS to begin accepting and processing individual tax returns on January 30th. The IRS believes that more than 120 million households will be able to begin filing tax returns at that time.
About 30 tax forms require more involved programming and testing of IRS systems. The IRS plans to accept tax returns containing these forms sometime in late February or early March. Among others, these forms include Form 5695 Residential Energy Credits, Form 4562 Depreciation and Amortization, and Form 3800 General Business Credit.
The IRS reminds taxpayers that the best option is to file electronically.
